It seems with this election more than others, people are persecuting others for their political views.
I've even found myself doing that from time to time. I'm not proud of it, as I actually try to be as non-partisan as possible and make my judgements over whose policies I agree with more as opposed to what political party someone is with.
For these reasons I voted for Obama. I usually go with the Democrats, because they have the same political views as me.
They keep a firm stand on separation of Church and State which is great to me. I don't believe religion should have a play in political decisions.
Their views on gay rights I agree with, because I believe people have the right to live however they wish so long as they don't endanger themselves or other people.
Even the right to abortion is something I agree with. I doubt I would ever have a part in an abortion unless it was endangering the life of my significant other, but I believe women should have the right to choose.
Granted, Obama did vote against a bill that would get rid of partial birth abortion, which is rather touchy, even to me, but still it's pretty much a non-issue to me.
I love Obama's view on universal health care. Sure, it may be a little Socialist, but to be honest with you Socialism seems to work best.
One the political spectrum, you have Communism on one end, and on the other end you have Capitalism. They're both political extremes, and Socialism seems to be the common middle ground. It uses a little of both to create something that seems to work better most of the time for the general people.
I would love to be able to go see a doctor whenever I wanted because I think I might be sick and not have to worry about paying for it as opposed to feeling sick, but not having any money to afford a doctor and thinking "well maybe it will go away on its own". Something I've done far too many times in my 20 years of living. I think that should change.
I'm even behind the redistribution of wealth. Even if I was rich I would be. Hell, Oprah is one of the richest people in this country and she fully supports Obama. Then again, she never did seem too against practically giving away her money for normal people.
All of these things, combined with the fact that I just like Obama's personality is why I voted for him. It's amazing how much personality can play in who you vote for. I like him. I like listening to him. I trust him. And even in the face of such a historic victory, Obama still completely kept his cool during his speech. Not over-excited, or under-excited. It was the same political charisma we've seen from him since he begun his campaign. You gotta respect that.
So I guess where I'm going with all this is, who did you vote for and why? You can discuss it here without fear of political persecution. Be sure that if anyone does start that they will be banned from the discussion.
